Mar Menor

The Mar Menor (meaning Little Sea) is a unique area located on the east coast of spain in the Murcia region. Mar Menor is Europe 's largest salt water lake, though the locals prefer to call it a sea. With an area of 170 square kilometres (65 square miles) of shallow, warm water, it is perfect for all kinds of water sports all year round! Its warm waters welcome not only families with children but also those looking for the relaxing effects of the worlds largest open air health spa in the world!
The average annual temperature in this area is around 17ºC and the average during the summer is above 21ºC. The winters are very mild, very rarely falling below 10ºC. Rain being just as rare. With over 3000 hours of sunshine a year and the mild climate, the water here can reach a phenomenal 30º in August.
The Mar Menor area offers you many golf courses, municipal parks and the famous resorts of La Manga and Polaris World. La Manga has more than 40km of beaches and the unique possibility of choosing between two seas with very different water temperatures, one with waves and one calm vitually all year long.
The seven kilometres of coastline is divided into the following beaches from North to South, some of which are designated blue flag by the EU:- Las Salinas beach

- Manzanares beach
- Carrion beach
- La Concha beach
