Orihuela
Orihuela is the capital of the Vega Baja, and is the largest district in the Alicante province. The town of Orihuela is divided by the Segura river with the old town on one side and a newer, more commercial part of the town on the other. It is a historical town with a variety of monuments, churches and a Cathedrals which testify to its strong religious and cultural heritage.
Orihuela has a population of around 76,000 inhabitants and has the region of Murcia to the west, Torrevieja to the south east and the areas of Pinoso and Abanilla up to the north.
For visitors there is plenty to keep you occupied, there are museums, a theatre, a cinema, two sports marinas, three golf coursesa, a number of natural beauty spots and you should certainly look out for art exhibitions which are held around the town.
The area of Orihuela has a mild climate with an average temperature of 20 degrees centigrade and a low rainfall level which allows for more than 300 days of sun each year.
